Below is a series of Q and A which will help you find the right boat for your children.

QUESTION:  What is the advantage of fibreglass construction?

ANSWER: Fibreglass is well proven as a boat construction material; it is easily repairable, easy to maintain, will not deform, light weight and can be produced in small quantities.

QUESTION: What’s right and wrong with roto- moulded construction?

ANSWER: Polyethylene roto- moulded boats are much heavier, they can deform and are more prone to staining and they are difficult to repair. On the plus side they are virtually indestructible and often cheaper.

QUESTION: Why not buy an older boat?

ANSWER: It’s like buying a second hand car. Older boats are often made of plywood and so under the paint you can find all sorts of problems, they are prone to leaking and are generally heavy, each year they will require some maintenance.

QUESTION: How safe is Jelly Bean?

ANSWER: Users need to take care .Jelly Bean has two compartments, so if one gets holed it will still float .It has a flotation panel sewn into the top of the sail this minimises the chance of the boat turtling. Lastly it has a self- draining cockpit so all the water which comes in will flow out without any bailing required.

Jelly Bean has an optional rowing kit so it can become a tender and of course children can spend hours rowing fishing and swimming  leaving you to your own pleasures.

Jelly Bean has 2 sail plans the smaller being suitable for absolute beginners.

SAFETY  FIRST

Your children must be able to swim and be confident  swiming in deep water. They must wear a lifejacket and you should never allow them out sailing in strong winds.

At the beginning only sail in an on-shore breeze.
